From Ahupua`a to Plantation: A History of Olowalu

The Ahupua`a system allowed Hawaiians to thrive as they were able to grow breadfruit and taro in the higher areas and sweet potato and coconuts closer to shore. The sea provided fish and the forest supplied wood for canoes and housing.
